It was the first year ava really cared about what was going on and the first year Evan got really excited about Santa. He didn't even sleep and finally at 5 AM he cam in our room crying because he was so excited. James was still awake becuase he was staying on his work schedule and Ava was awake in her room so we just all got down there and did our thing.
Evan helped me hand out presents and he was sooooo excited to see that the milk and cookies were gone. We made out like bandits and I love the presents that James chose for me. I got my traditional new blanket and the icing on the cake was a plum colored sweater jacket. It looks great on and I have been wearing it everywhere.
Santa brought Evan the Devestator Track and Ava Yo Gabba Gabba blocks.

Decorating the tree

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/S0cIPYEoMzI/AAAAAAAAAS4/aHP2Cc-C4CU/s200/013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424313336443974450" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/S0cIO2VsZUI/AAAAAAAAASw/P6_yUnCF2Sk/s200/012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424313327388747074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 144px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/S0cIOWGmEVI/AAAAAAAAASo/DvFnm24mXqE/s200/010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424313318735483218" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/S0cIN3rk7wI/AAAAAAAAASg/HU6XtyXkVx4/s200/007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424313310569099010" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 126px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/S0cINv62v5I/AAAAAAAAASY/F1oq5KOz68w/s200/006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424313308485697426" />
This was the first year that I had both my kids helping decorate the tree. That's something I did growing up, so I have kept that tradition. Evan enjoys it. I thought we had gotten through the age where Evan would do this, but I guess not! He said to me, "I was just looking in the mirror and my mind just told me,'You need a haircut.' and so I did." Here are a before and after.

The second was Ava deciding she needed to look like those blue creatures on that nes movie Avatar. No, this wasn't the real reason. The girl just likes to color on herself and does it ALL THE TIME!!! I didn't get picks before the bath, but I got them during the bath. I can't tell you how much energy I have again, now that all this diabetes stuff is being taken care of. Things are going pretty good with that by the way.
There is still snow on the ground here at Easter, so the base does an indoor egg hunt for the kids in one of the hangars. We went to that yesterday and had a blast. The 1-4 year olds went first and Ava thought it was cool. Then the people spread out more eggs and the next age group gets to go. Evan was in that group and he just ran and got a whole bunch of eggs including one that had a piece of paper with a number on it. That meant that he got a prize. It was an 8 pack of bubbles. So when we got back from the hunt, I parked in the driveway so that he could blow bubbles in the garage. It was still too chilly for him at 10 in the morning.
Today, the kids loved their baskets and then we got ready to go to church. Ava was a little toot and was not happy about her picture being taken. Hence, the new picture in the heading. I got to sing "His Hands" in sacrament meeting and that was cool. It felt very nostalgic. Like being back in Seguin where I got to sing every year.
This has been a great weekend.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SeLBVGUUs8I/AAAAAAAAAP4/7y4eugAHcEM/s200/S7301611.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324030277722616770" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 126px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SeLBU6uihiI/AAAAAAAAAPw/LRhgrhhXRec/s200/S7301598_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324030274611349026" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 106px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SeLBUxItotI/AAAAAAAAAPo/mS8_nhEhsco/s200/S7301593_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324030272036774610" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 172px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SeLBUm8WqAI/AAAAAAAAAPg/2xgVinJMB70/s200/S7301588_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324030269300582402" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 154px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SeLBUZY0tuI/AAAAAAAAAPY/pm12r12stbQ/s200/S7301587_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324030265661896418" />

Evan's Asthma and Allergies

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 152px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/Sd8Bg0gyK_I/AAAAAAAAAOY/znuiRYkqA_0/s200/HPIM0174.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322974947938806770" />

So Evan has asthma and allergies, including exzema, and has had them since he was around 18 months. His asthma is triggered by his allergies, which are everything that they test for. All 42 of them at the highest level or the second to highest level. No surprise, I just feel bad for him. His asthma is also triggered by exercise, mostly when he is already feeling bad, and the cold, and when he is sick and everything else under the sun. That's what it feels like anyway.
They were bad in Texas off and on and seemed to peak at its worse the summer of 2006. He had to be hospitalized overnight in July that summer. The picture is of him playing in the playroom on the peds floor at Wilford Hall in San Antonio. James was gone to Qatar. Thank goodness we still lived in Texas and I didn't have Ava yet. Ryker had come to stay the night with Evan and so I called Mom and Dad and they came. Mom came with me to the hospital and Dad stayed at the house with Ryker. That was an experiance.
Then when we got here to Alaska, the first week we were here, Evan's exzema cleared up. The only places it was bad was behind his knees where he sweats the most and it flares a little when he gets overheated from blankets and such. So we thought maybe things would be better. We were wrong. Last summer was the first time we had to call the ambulance to take him to the ER. The attack just creeped up and we couldn't get it under control fast enough to get him there ourselves. This was not the first ER visit by any means and every time we have been, he gets breathing treatments and a round of steroids (prednisone) to take for 5 days to help his lungs not be inflamed. Those are not fun days, let me tell you!!! We have worked with his pediatrician and results have been ok. We now see a pulmonologist and he is good too. But things just aren't getting better.
He misses so much school and if I thought that he would be better off taught by me than in public school, I would totally and immediately home school him. But I feel like he would fight me every step of the way and that he needs that socialization he gets from school. He loves it there and all the kids and his friends. He is not behind and he has a wonderful teacher who I keep in touch with and we make up all his work.
Tuesday we were in the ER twice and he is taking his steroids now. Usually he can be back to school within a day or two, but this time it is really bad. It just really worries me and I hate for him to not be able to be a normal little boy. Prayers and research about homeschooling are definately in abundance these days.

Twilight...again!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 178px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/ScnNC3ewFMI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/1BzIX5iXwdw/s200/twilight-tree.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317006284223943874" />

Well, the movie came out on Saturday and I sure did go and get it. I've watched it three times since then and I still just love it. It was painted white and then Mom painted "Home Sweet Home" on the front and we loved it. Well it has taken a beating over the years but has stood the test of time. Repainted, it is now at Mom and Dad's in Kerrville for all the grandkids to play in when they go out there. The new tradition is to write your name on it for all to see. Here's Ava playing in it while we were out there over Christmas break.

Christmas 2008

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 132px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/ScnEfBUTjpI/AAAAAAAAANw/sTA-5LsuZRc/s200/S7301467_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316996872296173202" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/ScnEepcjJlI/AAAAAAAAANo/UrpFGqMm8C4/s200/S7301469_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316996865888298578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 155px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/ScnEeUEVUWI/AAAAAAAAANg/g4m343mOWq8/s200/S7301468_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316996860149584226" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 170px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/ScnEDu7gNBI/AAAAAAAAANY/74PIac_QxqA/s200/S7301466_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316996403503838226" />

So, last august, we bought tickets to go down to Texas for Christmas and at first we thought James wasn't going to be able to come, but then he did and that was cool. We spent the whole break down there and it was awesome. I didn't get as many pics as I thought but here are some from Christmas Eve and Morning.
Evan had woken up at like 4 am and the crashed again. That blanket he is covering with is his Spiderman quilt Mom crocheted for him in the shape of a web. Pretty awesome huh?
Ava loves "Yo Gabba Gabba" and so we got her a dvd with 4 episodes on it. She hasn't stopped watching since and I know all the songs and silly things they say and do. Evan got a SpongeBob lego set and a Ben 10 dvd.
No we didn't bring those all with us, I had sent all the presents early so we didn't have to bring them on the plane.

I know, I know...

So! Here's the big explanation. We went to Texas for Christmas. (Which was wonderful, by the way and there will be photos posted soon of that on here and on facebook.) After we got back I started feeling really bad all the time. I felt like I had the flu and I couldn't shake it to save my life. I was sleeping as much as the kids and James would allow me to. I would sleep throughout the whole day and in between voice and piano lessons. Some of those would even get cancelled because I felt so bad sometimes. Anyway, about 2 weeks ago I had a check-up for my thyroid condition and did some blood work that morning prior to the appointment. Low and behold, I have Diabetes and have had it for at least 3 months. That is why I had been feeling so bad. All the things I was feeling are symptoms of high blood sugar and Type II diabetes. It wasn't a big surprise. Both Mom and Dad have Type II and there is a long line in my dad's side who have it too. But it was a shock. I'm not quite 30 yet and I already got it. However, I have been saying for about 10 years that I get everything Mom has, just 10 to 15 years before she got it.
So there we are. I am taking meds, exercising and eating differently and better. No insulin shots so far and hopefully I won't have to. The medicine seems to help and I totally know what it feels like when I eat the wrong things and my blood sugar gets too high. It almost puts me out of commision now. I will not be doing that very often if ever. I have already started to lose weight and that is REALLY nice. Thanks for everyone's concern. Love y'all very much.

Twilight...The MOVIE!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 135px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SS-ktuAXWmI/AAAAAAAAAM8/oO4lqLpnhLM/s200/twilight_bigteaserposter.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273614794024770146" />

So........I really liked it.
My favorite scenes were when Rosalie smashed the salad bowl in her hands because Bella had already eaten and when Edward jumped across the room when he was kissing Bella because he was trying not to bite her and suck out her blood.
I am, however, a little annoyed with Kristen Stewart's performance at the end when Bella is in the hospital and freaks out on Edward when he tells her she should go to Jacksonville. I felt like it wasn't pointed enough, targeted enough, concentrated enough. I felt like it was all over the place and she should have like...I don't know...freaked out but maybe grabbed him at the same time so he couldn't get away. I think it would have gotten the point across better. I guess that's what I'm saying. I feel that way about all the scenes where she had to be frantic in some way.
I want to see it again so I can better like her perfomance throughout the movie, I guess.
All in all, I think it was a great adaptation and I can't wait for NEW MOON!!!

Quick updates

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 291px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SS-Yoq7-83I/AAAAAAAAAMc/p4FwVwn-4fQ/s320/S7301390_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273601513162208114" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 146px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SS-YoY1JXyI/AAAAAAAAAMU/nK7ocV1qag0/s320/S7301391_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273601508301692706" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 310px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SS-WmlLcMcI/AAAAAAAAAMM/UryI4yddlQU/s320/S7301361_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273599278233432514" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 145px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SS-WmWzam9I/AAAAAAAAAME/WQFChTHNrd0/s320/S7301357_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273599274374568914" />

Halloween was fun.
Our Ward had a Trunk or Treat the weekend before and so we went.
Good Food. Good Dessert. The activity part was watching some families play a kind of "Fear Factor" game. It was funny.
Then we went out and Trunk or Treated in the 17 degree weather.
Evan was Bumblebee from Transformers and Ava was a butterfly.(bottom two pics)
On Halloween: The base Trick or Treating started at 6pm. It was 14 degrees that day. So Evan's Bumbleebee costume wasn't going to be warm enough and he had also worn it out from wearing all week while he was home sick from school. So he wore his shark costume from last year because he could wear clothes under that and the his coat. I bundled Ava up with an extra hat underneath her hood and mittens and blanket in a wagon and headed out. (top two pics) Evan wouldn't listen and didn't put socks on and only wore his rain boots instead of snow boots and so we were only out for 30 minutes and then came home. Ate candy and handed out what we had. Evan liked that part the best, I think.

The Military Wife

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SPLM39BYZUI/AAAAAAAAAL8/I_8a4JfXaRA/s320/military+wife.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256488976740017474" />
They may look different and each is wonderfully unique

But this is what they have in common:lots of moving---
moving far from home,moving two cars, three kids and one dog----all riding with HER, of course
moving sofas to basements because they won't go in THIS housemoving curtains that won't fit
moving jobs and certifications and professional development hours
moving away from friends moving toward new friends
moving or storing her most important luggage: her trunk full of memories

often waiting---
waiting for housing
waiting for orders
waiting for deployment
waiting for reunion
waiting for phone calls
waiting for the new curtains to arrive
waiting for him to come home dinner.

They call her 'military dependent', but she knows better:

She can balance a checkbook,handle the yard work, and fix a noisy toilet.
She is intimately familiar with drywall, anchors,and toggle bolts.
She can file the taxes, sell a house, buy a car, or set up a move--all with ONE Power of Attorney.
She welcomes neighbors that don't welcome her.
Reinvents her career with every PCS;
locates a house in the desert, the arctic, the deep south or overseas and learns to call all 'home.' And sure enough it was. Not just sleety snow and then it disappeared, but real snow and it was sticking.
So we got in our snow gear and went outside. Evan made some snow angels and his first snowman of the season. :D Ava liked it and wasn't scared at all, except when her mitten came off one hand and then she didn't want to touch it. I guess we are really in for it and it will be snowing on Halloween. We shall see. In Texas, Fall is later than normal and it doesn't get that cold. Here in Alaska, it is right where it should be, but only lasts for a few weeks and is cooler than most. The last couple of weeks and 25 degrees at 9 o'clock in the morning, to be precise. BUT, the season brings with it a certain feel, smell, look; very nostalgic somehow and I LOVE IT!!!!
The trees are very gold, orange, yellow and red right now and leaves are piling up on the ground underneath them. Kids running around with lite jackets on throwing those leaves in the air reminds me of school and then I think about all those Friday night football games down there in Texas and it makes me want nachos, a hot dog and rootbeer. :D Hee hee!!!

No, I did not take this picture, but it is a very accurate... no pretty much exactly what it looks like about 10 miles down the road toward our chapel in Eagle River. It is absolutely breath taking to come up over the hill and see that right in front of you. Oh the works of our Heavenly Father.
*Big Breath In*
*Hold It*
*And sigh*

Husband Tag

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oN3CSi-DB_U/SN7d8z2-4YI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/7YdyaRz4_WM/s320/HPIM1325_edited.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5250878252343288194" />

1. She said that at the end of the day he said his ear war hurting really bad and strated crying, but since we live on the other side of the base from the school she knew the quickest way to get him home would be the school bus. So he gets off the bus and is holding his ear. He saw me and started crying. I said "I know. I know. Let's go get some medicine from the store and make you feel better." But then he just started wailing so I decided to take him to the ER seeing as it was too late in the day to get a DR. Appt. (The whole military, living on base thing is crap when it comes to medical care most of the time.) So we go to the ER and I call James at work to come get Ava. (Emergency room issues are the only time he can get out of work.) Evan was triaged and the gave him some Motrin for the pain. (The wonder drug of the military) But it worked and the 4 and 1/2 hours later, Evan's pain was still gone and there was still one person in front of us. My thought was, "We are leaving and if it truely is an ear infection it will still be hurting tomorrow and I will get a reall DR's appointment in the morning." So that's exactly what happened. But it's Double ear infections and 10 days of pink liquid Amoxicillin. (which he doesn't seem to mind.)
I woke up on Friday with a sore throat. It hurt off and on that day, but yesterday morning I was fine. Then we got home from a Primary Activity and I just crashed. It almost feels like the flu. My friend and her son both had strep thoat last week and the week before, so I hope it's not that.
AND, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't let Ava get sick. When your babies, who can't talk and tell you what hurts get sick, it's the worst. It almost makes you feel like a failure and all you want to do is make the hurt go away. Cross your fingers!!!!!!

Time Out for Women

So, This last weekend was Time Out for Women in Anchorage, Alaska. It was the first time they had been to Alaska and it was really neat because Hillary Weeks is from here and so her parents were here and got to see her perform and such.
As always, like the dork I am, I forgot my camera on both Friday night and Saturday, so no pictures but it was great. Of Course!!
Friday night Hillary Weeks performed and we heard talks from Sister Wendy Watson Nelson (married to Elder Russel M Nelson of the Quorm of the Twelve) and Sheri Dew. Between the two of their talks, we had a little Q & A and someone asked how it was that Sister Nelson came to meet Elder Nelson and so we got to hear that cool story, told by both Sister Nelson and Sister Dew. They are best friends and they just play off eachother and tease and everything. It was soooo cool.
Saturday, I was able to hear Emily Watts and S. Michael Wilcox. I absolutely love both of them. It wasn't the first time I have seen and heard Brother Wilcox. He was at the very first TOFW I went to in Texas several years ago. But it was the first time I heard Sister Watts, though I have several of her books and talks on CD. Same with Bro. Wilcox.
I left at lunch time because I wasn't feeling well, but before I left I was able to get Hillary Weeks to sign her book that I had bought form the book store there. By the way, her new CD is coming out in a week or so and it is going to be awesome. She sang several of her new songs that are on that CD. Most she, of course, wrote and she also sang one in which Tyler Castleton wrote and it was awesome. I just can't seem to remember the name of it all of a sudden. I mean I didn't go to class by myself on the first day of school until the 5th grade. I only went in with him today so I could get some pictures of him at his desk and in the class because I didn't get any for kindergarten. (I dropped the camera on the way to school and broke it.) He was such a big boy and excited to go.

When I woke him up he said, "I'm still a little bit sleepy." and then he said, "I'm so tired I think I'm going to cry a little bit." :( Then I told him he was going to get to wear his new clothes and his new shoes and he was going to get to see some of his friends from his class last year and he was better. He ate oatmeal for breakfast and than just kept asking when it was time to go.

On the way out of the neighborhood, he thought he saw his friend Blake and wanted to ride the bus to school instead. But then he saw that it wasn't Blake and said I could take him. BUT, he sure does want to ride the bus to and from school tomorrow.

Joining the Twilighters...

Ok, So I joined the Twilighters about July 18th. I had been talking to my mom and sister and they got into them. As they were talking about the series, I realized it was the same books Lindsey Woolsey (cousin - in- law) had been reading and blogging about. She is a Twihard Twilighter. BUT what I didn't realize from reading Lindsey's blog was that they were vampire books. I love vampires. I love all the supernatural things. So I sure did go out and buy all three of the four books that were out. I was sooooo happy that I hadn't gotten into this years ago and that I only had to wait a few days (by the time I got through with #3) for #4 to come out. I love them. I love them. I love them and I love Stephenie Meyer. So I am going to buy The Host now and read that as soon as I am done reading Vol. 1 of the Porter Rockwell Chronicles.
I also can't wait to see Twilight on the BIG screen. I'm going to Texas for Christmas just a week after it comes out, so Mom and Kelsey are going to wait for me to go see it when I get there. Yipeeeee!!!

Our Hero

Evan's thing lately has been to tie his blankets around him like a cape. He is really into watching all the superhero shows on Cartoon Network and Jetix and such. His favorite lately is Ben 10. I didn't know much about it, but for his b-day he got one of the action figures and now we own the complete 3rd season on dvd and he hasn't stopped watching it, except to outside and play. Ben Tennison is 1/2 alien and 1/2 human and can turn into aliens that have different abilities like super speed or strength or fire, etc. so he can help people and stop bad aliens. Crazy huh? I can't keep up with it all, but Evan sure can.

Pigtails, Phones, and Teeth...

Ava's hair is long enough now that I try to put it up in pigtails or a ponytail. She can, however, gum to death just about any food we give her.

Ava's Necklaces

So here are some remarkably cute pics of Ava and her necklaces.

The story with the necklaces began a few months ago. Evan had recieved a couple of mardi gras necklaces at a B-day party and I tried to put the on her then, but she wouldn't have it. She didn't like them and didn't want them on. Flash forward to last week. Those two necklaces were in th eliving room one day and that little tot crawled right up to them and figured out how to get them around her neck on her own and from that moment one she had to have them on. We take them off when she sleeps, but as soon as she wakes up she points and grunts that she has to have them. All 8 of them!!!

No Slowing down

So things have not slowed down all summer long and I have neglected my blog. Sorry. Her is a little overview.
At the end of June there was an airshow here at Elmendorf and the kids and I had a blast. (Pics to Come) Then all through July we just played and played and played some more. Keeping up with James crazy 12 hour shifts from 7am -7pm or vice versa is just another thing we do.

In April, right after General Conference, the stake added a ward and changed ward boundaries so now we belong to the Arctic Valley Ward. We have to drive about 10 miutes further than before to Eagle River, but this ward includes our whole side of Elmendorf AFB and Ft Richardson Army Post. I am soooo grateful for that, I can't even tell you. There are so many more Sisters on base now and it is great to be able to not have to worry about how they are going to get on and so forth. I love it. My callings in the ward are not too difficult and have allowed me to be in Relief Society which frankly, is a relief. I really needed to be around the Sisters and to get to know them at an adult level instead of just through their children. AND our RS President is great. I love Jessica so much. She has alrady become a good friend and I appreciate all she does. I am the RS Pianist and the Activity Days Leader. So I still serve in Primary, but not on Sundays.

Now School starts on Monday for Evan and I can't wait. We get to meet his teacher, Ms. Armstrong tomorrow and I'm already ready. All the school supplies are bought. New shoes, a few new outfits and such are ready to go and I am excited!!!! YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ava has decided that she will now grace us with her walking abilities and is getting better by the day. She has also decided that she is a girlie girl. I had suspected this for quite some while but we now know for sure. She where's necklaces all day everyday, except for naptimes and bedtime and when she wakes up she immediately reaches and points for hre necklaces and puts them on. All 8 of them.

I guess that's it for now. Pics to come of all the summer events and of a few other things!

Evan's Birthday

So, today is Evan's 6th birthday. We didn't do anthing for him today, however, because we had a big honkin' party for him a couple of weekends ago when Mom was here. He has known for a while that he wanted it to be a tropical fish theme, so I was able to get decorations and such way in advance so I wouldn't be spending a fortune at the last minute. Thank goodness Anchorage actually has a really good party store. He had a really great time with friends from church and from school and it was AWESOME!!!!

Alaska WILDlife

So, A few weeks ago when Mom came to visit, Mom, the kids and I went to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center down the Seward Highway near Girdwood. It was my first trip down or up, for that matter, the Seward and it was gorgeous. What should have beena 45-50 trip took 1hour and 15 minutes. The ocean was on the right and beyond that and the all around us were the mountains and I just couldn't believe how beautiful and majestic these works were. To the left was mountain and rock wall that had the melting snow and ice falling out of it. Evan kept saying, Look, Nana!! Another waterfall. Did you see it? Did you see it?"

Then we got to the wildlife center and boy was it windy, but it was neat to see the animals. It was made up of animals from alaska and that were endangered somehow. My favorite were the wood bison, not to be confused with plains bison that we all know and love from Texas. They got so close to the fence and just stared us in the eye. There were also moose, elk, musk ox, black bear, reindeer, an eagle named Adonis and there were also brown bear, but they didn't wanted to see us I guess. They didn't come out. It was a really cool trip.

Ava's Birthday

Ava's Birthday was on the 2nd and mine was yesterday on the 18th. Both of those weekends James had to work so we split the difference and had a b-day party together on the 9th. It was mostly for Ava of course since it was her first and boy was it fun. We invited our friends from church that also live in the neighborhood and all of them have kids of different ages including one who is only 3 weeks older than Ava, so the house was full. We ate and ate and then sang to Ava and gave her the cake. A tradition I sort of kept from growing up that my mom did was a strawberry cake with whipcream instead of icing. I did this for Evan on his first birthday too. So we sang and Evan blew out the candle, which she was completely mesmerized by and the she dove into the cake. At first, it was just the whipcream hand over fist. Then she realized there was something underneath that white stuff and went crazy devouring that cake. She was totally opposite of Evan. He wouldn't touch the cake at first. He was scared of it. After I pushed his hand into the whipcream and put it to his mouth, then he went crazy. She also got a few gifts including a hand made bracelet from Sabrina and Reagan. It was great.

Evan and his stars

Evan is in Kindergarten and he loves it there.

They use a card turning system for discipline. You start on green and if you stay there, then you never got in trouble. 1 time in trouble you turn your card to yellow, 2 is blue, and 3 is red. Then the teacher marks whetever color you got in your folder for that day as a star and writes next to it what you did wrong. So everyday when he gets off the bus we ask or he tells us what color star he got. Yes, he has come home with red stars before. I have no quams about my son not being perfect. Trust me, I know he isn't. But lately, he has been coming home with an array of colored stars, except green and it has all been becuase he was talking. His folder basically looks like this for a week:

Monday-yellow, talking

Tuesday-red, Talking x 3

Wednesday-yellow, talking

Thursday-yellow, talking

Friday-blue, talking x 2

and so on. Needless to say his folder looks like a rainbow.

He would get in trouble at home if he had to turn his card for talking back to the teacher or not playing nice and such. One time he got in trouble for yelling at someone, so he got in trouble for that too. We haven't been too hard on him in the past if he had to turn his card only for talking, but now we are tired of him not getting any green stars, So today was the first day that he is getting disciplined at home for stars other than green even if it is just for talking.

Yellow Star-no TV

Blue Star-no TV and no X-box

Red Star-no TV, no X-box, no computer and he has to talk to his dad.

He got a yellow star today for talking and he hasn't watched TV all day. He did want to watch a movie, but we told him that's watching TV and he got upset so maybe he will get the hang of it. We are going to have to keep up this kind of discipline over the summer because I will not have a crazy kid running around all summer long.

Ava learns

So Ava is going t0 be ONE year old tomorrow. Actually, she was born at 12:03 am, so I guess she will officially be one in a little less then 2 hours.

I can't believe a year has gone by that fast. It was just last February that we got up here to Alaska and now Ava is one!!!!

She is getting her first two teeth right now-the two front bottom ones. She is cruising and crawling all over the place. She is still very weary about walking, even when we hold her hands but, if she learns how to walk the way she learned how to crawl, it won't take very much.

The other thing is that she doesn't sleep through the night yet. She has never slept through the night on a regular basis and therefore, I have not either. She has been waking up about every 4 hours. But, lastnight, we started letting her cry it out or using the ferber method. this is when you put them down and give them their comfort item and them let them soothe themselves to sleep, they sleep longer and understand that they don't need to eat, or rock or cuddle, etc. to get back to sleep. As long as they are crying, you go back in every 5, 10, 15, lay them down, no talking and so on, until they fall asleep. Then on night 2, you start with 10 minutes and so on. When she woke up at midnight lastnight, I only had to go in at the 5 and 10 minute intervals. When she woke up at 4am I had to go in at 5, 10, and 15 minute intervals.

Tonight so far, she doesn't like being in there at all. Since 10pm I have been in there twice and boy was she not happy when I didn't pick her up and hold her.

It's hard on me. I never thought I would be one of those mom's that got all sentimental and stuff when my child cries. But boy do I. I did the same thing with Evan when he was a baby too. Almost time to go in again...Ahhhhhhh!!!!

Let's Blog

So everyone is blogging now. My sister-in-law, Tasha, started a blog about her two boys, my nephews, not too long ago and I really have enjoyed reading her posts. They are great to keep in touch with in a general sense and I am glad she decided to do that.
Then, when Erin, my sister, suggested that we start to blog I thought, ok, let's do this. She said some of her friends and brother-in-law blog here so that's where I have decided to as well.
I guess I love talking about me and what's going on with me so much anyway it's a great way to keep everyone else in the know.
New pictures of the kids will always be my background, just as they are my wallpaper on my computer.
